In terms of cost, it's not exactly a valuable instrument, except for the fact that it was made by my great-grandfather, and isn't quite tuned to standard concert pitch and has a bit of a unique sound to it. So, to start with this concept, I've got a character whose primary and most obvious "prop" is a particular flute (technically, it's a variety of recorder, but "flute" is easier to write and gets the message across without delving into a whole lot of background). Oftentimes, it has to be visibly distinct for the character, and in general, that means something unique. This isn't a post for that sort of thing - this is for those players that want to have a particular, special instrument/object/prop that they believe is central to the core concept. In fact, it's part of why I've been so quiet lately - thinking a lot on why it is some of my characters know what they do, as well as how it's affected how I build and design concepts for games.įor a bit of background - as you're aware, I tend to advise players to avoid bringing especially valuable instruments to games, because it's entirely possible that it will be damaged or destroyed. This is a bit of an interesting post to make for me, because it delves into a bit of personal history - some of which will be a bit vague, of course, because I like having a bit of anonymity on the internet and providing more general advice for people.
